All new cars in California now have an Environmental Performance score.
The Tesla comes out on top with a 10/10 score! The first number is a global warming score from both vehicle operation and fuel production. The global warming pollutants are Nitrous Oxide, Methane, A/C refrigerant and Carbon Dioxide.
The smog score is solely from vehicle operation and include non methane organic gases, oxides of nitrogen, and oxides of hydrocarbons.
To find out the score of a car you are interested in buying, look up your vehicle in the California government web site. Several other states also follow California’s more restricted pollution guidelines.
